I'm rooted using z4 and I just got the update I'm guessing for gb. I haven't installed it yet because I'm not sure if it wil hurt my super user privileges.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't done it, but I'm pretty sure it will unroot your phone. I'm also pretty sure that even though it will unroot your phone, there is a way to reroot it using the Droid 3 method I believe. Search and you will probably find out how to do it.

Bungus is correct. Your update will fail.. You can't ota update without flashing the 2.3.20 sbf firmware on your phone.

My DroidX did an OTA upgrade from Android 2.2 to 2.3.4 now I've lost Root. Can Moto DroidX 2.3.4 be rooted, using Z4? I'm kind of leary because I just bricked my DroidX2, now I'm out of extra phones :p .

TIA

I would use the Droid 3 Root once you have 2.3.4... so much easier to use. Always make sure to UN-ROOT before you get any OTA Updates.

So just being rooted will cause the new update to fail, even with all the required bloatware present?

OK. That's different from my problem. My problem is the OTA won't install at all, even with all the required bloatware defrosted.

My only fear with that is what if it fails to reroot? Then I'm stuck with an unrootable D2 because you can't SBF from the new update.

Am going to try the update again. Would someone be so kind as to tell me if I have all the required bloatware? Amazon Kindle 3.5.1.1, Amazon MP3 2.4.1, Backup Assistant 2.3.3, Backup Assistant Client 1.0, Backup Assistant Plus 5.0.1.19, BlockBuster 2.6.9, Cardock 1.0, City ID 3.0.3, NFS Shift 1.1.83, Skype Mobile 1.6.0.31, Swype 2.70.75.22915, VZ Navigator 7.5.1.62. Also, do I need to change back to my old boot animation file? I replaced it with one I downloaded, renaming the default one to bootanimation.old.

Thank you.

Just tried the update again after defrosting all the bloatware and temporarily removing root with Voodoo. Same result as before. The update will not install.
