Hey i just though i would post this for those of you that wanted to know. I read a thread here a couple of days that had to do with people getting in trouble because they were tethering from their droid. I went into my VZW store and talked to one of my buddies that is a sales rep about the matter. He said that you would only get charged extra for a blackberry (not sure why) not for the droid. Just to make sure that were went mistaken my buddy, the current store manager, and myself combed over the terms of agreement and found that there is actually nothing that would prohibit you from tethering to a external device, which means WOW ALL NIGHT!!!!!!

You are not serious. It is plain as day that it is against the TOS to be tethering any device without paying for a tethering package. This includes dumb phones that have tethering capabilities, WinMo devices, Androids AND Blackberry phones.

hmmm...well have had my droid for a couple of months now and i have been tethering on it ever since i can remember. I only recently started using soo much data because i have been using it to connect to Xbox live and play on my 360. I have been averaging, i would say, 6-12 gigs a day depending on how long i play and my family plays (i let them play too) and my bill has always stayed at a steady 130 a month.

Sorry but the 1-2MB/s tethered is not the "same internet" as the ~15MB/s you get with a real high speed internet provider.

And you're going to be the first one to post on here that you got caught and how unfair VZW is. Trust me, some accounts bring up big old red flags and you could be a target, especially if you're using that much.

So, your original post said the VZW store manager looked at the TOS with you and found nothing, can you tell me what store this was? It seems like all your posts after that were just you bragging about all the GB of data you have used. I worked for VZW until recently, and I'm telling you to be careful.

This is why VZW may be looking into charging folks. Come one people a lil common sense. You are going to tether off your droid like it is a cable modem at the house, really.
Its the 10%. I bet you using a lot of torrents aren't you; downloading netflix, music, whatever. How about get call the phone company or cable company for a modem for your xbox and movies; and just use the droid to tether sparingly.
Vzw may or may not be tracking it now; but if you fools keep burning through a bunch of bandwidth they gonna make it an issue. So, in other words, you folks being stupid burning through all this bandwidth is going to draw more attention and cause problems for everyone.

Agreed. For Verizon Wireless, finding people for violating their TOS is as simple as pulling up a spreadsheet of users in a specific area and sorting by bandwidth used.

I bought my Droid from Verizon, from the sales manager there. he's the one that told me about PDAnet and tethering because I specifically asked if it costs extra to tether, he said no and that there is no tethering package/fee associated with this phone, only with blackberry devices (guessing they can only get away with that since it's not as open a platform as android market is.) I asked him if there were any bandwidth limitations, he said no. So take the paranoia with a grain of salt, I'm not worried in the least bit. :D

Is it me or does a lot of sales reps say you can tether the droid without any additional costs?
