This is gonna sound dumb so bear with me, Also it's my birthday tomorrow and I am old :(

I use a Straighttalk e71 and have an app on it that makes it a wifi hotspot...
I also have a rooted Gtablet that I connect to this wifi hotspot.
I also have a old Droid 1 that I don't use anymore but it does not show the wifi hotspot in my list of available hotspots.

Now if my G tablet sees this hotspot, shouldn't my droid?

I use the Droid around the house for internet radio when I am in the garage etc.

    Thanks for all suggestions

Usually wifi hot spot apps are "ad hoc" only and not every device can recognize it

It depends on the phone..... from what I understand and have seen, only the og and a couple other phones are ad hoc only. If you remember when the droid 1 came out it wasn't able to be a 'hotspot' because of hardware limitations..... it only transmits an ad hoc network. While most other phones transmit an infrastructure network

Is there an app that will allow my razr to be a wifi hotspot that doesn't have a monthly fee or that doesn't require root?

That link is to a USB tether for nonrooted phones, just like the EasyTether app in the Android Market.

I do not know or any WiFi hotspots apps for nonrooted phones. However, wifi hotspots had a known problem on the Razr. See link:

If you use hotspot anyone/thing using your device's signal is now using your data allocation.

If you enable hotspot, verizon will charge you for it. However, a recent court ruling says that they cannot do anything to you if you go out and find another way to use your hotspot. Foxfi isan app available in the play store that works really well for me. When you enable hotspot, just like Lloyd says, any data used will be deducted from your allowance. Not an issue if you have unlimited but something to think about if you don't.

Nobody can access it if there is an access code set up. Besides that the range is pretty small, but having the code set is key.

I think Lloyd meant anybody that accesses your network, with permission (or without for that matter), uses up data rates with could be pretty fast if you only have 2Gb/month.
