I know there is mobile hotspot built in but its only available for an introductory period. Im coming over from a rooted D1 and have a wifi tether app that works extremely well. It is the app that i use the most by far. My concern before getting another phone is to make sure that there is a wifi tether option. Does the Charge have this available rooted or unrooted?

Yes i know about hotspot, im talking about free wifi tether beyond that which is already on the phone. For example with a rooted D1 you were able to use a wifi tether app found in some custom roms and even on the marketplace.

Im not sure if wifi tether works on the Charge, thats what im trying to find out. I would not like to rely on the mobile hotspot due to verizon will start to charge for that option. I have been using wifi tether app for over 7+ years since WinMo days and Verizon wants to start charging now :(.

Hotspot is a paid a paid feature. I mean look at all the users on att getting messages about it. Like anything else in this world services arent always free no matter how you look at it. Its in the tos, if you want to break tos, up you. I know you can argue this night and day. But yes there is apps that allow this for free...

Are you talking about PDANET? I've used it on other androids (Aria on at&t worked well, Hero on Sprint as well) although I have not yet tried it on the Charge - I'm sure it will work. You do not need to root for PDANET either.

I've only used it as a true tether with the USB cable, not sure if Wifi is available...
