What is the purpose of rooting? To allow more freedom to install apps, and add more goodness to the phone?

To remove the bloatware crap that VZW has saddled our phones with. (CityID, Amazon MP3, and CDROM.ISO, I'm looking at you.)

Or to install an AOSP-based ROM (e.g. CyanogenMod) instead of Sense.

I was asking the same thing after seeing all the APPS in the market that caught my attention saying *NEED ROOT* I was like wtf is this root stuff?

    I searched and found this

after which I downloaded the software and read their entire site on the process it requires , watched the video and actually, after I did it and it said completed --done it was so freaking easy i thought I messed up and did the process again to make sure lmao!

Since then about 3 weeks ago, I've been learning more and more and loving it!
