It is my personal belief that you should really try to root your droid yourself. That way when you decide to flash a new rom or if something is not working just right you know what was done and at what step something did not go well. I learned so much about my phone and what I wanted it to do and how to accomplish that by rooting it myself.

I have a really good step-by-step instruction in my signature. Also, there are a lot of us here on the forums that can help you should you get stuck. We can even walk you through the process via pm, gtalk or even here on the forums.

I know that this seems overwhelming and is terrifying to attempt but trust me you will understand so much more about what was done to your phone and what you may want to do in the future by rooting yourself.

go here.... Its really not hard at all rooting your phone and it would be really hard to hurt your phone.. just follow instructions... once you root put rom manager on your phone and you will be flashing roms all the time. be careful tho i have become addicted to flashing new roms.. and new ones come out all the time!!!!

since we have this going . . . my gf just got a droid and i've convinced her to root and talked her into a pink theme (yeah that was tough lol). looks like now we can both not pay attention to each other!!

a member on here rooted mine a while ago using a remote access program. i'm used to using clockwork and would prefer that seeing that i'm used to it. were are the tutorials for clock? i'll i've seemed to find are using rsd and spre.

i know we used adb shell (maybe) but he did all the grunt work. i'd like to find a write up that uses clockwork, is that possible?

dlwhtrose's link will work for you. Hmm, it looks like I have the same link. It must be good:)

There are lots of good tutorials out there.

To root your phone you have to install SPRecovery. That will let you flash a rooted rom. At that point you can pay the money to buy Rom Manager to flash a variety of roms, or just keep using SPRecovery for free and flash then using that. Up to you.

I also agree that it makes sense to root the phone yourself. There are only a few short steps and then it is done. Learn what's going on so you can undo it and make further changes. Read ten different instructions and you will start to get the drift of what is going on.

Install RSD Lite, flash SPRecovery, make a backup, install the rooted rom of your choice with SPRecovery. That's it and its in all the guides.
