I'm going to root my Droid and am considering what ROM I am going to use. I am looking at Cyanogen, Bugless, Ultimate, and Liquid. I want something stable and fast (like everyone doesn't) and welcome any input.

I like Rubix. There is a new ROM that I really like but still in Beta. But it has built in options to change your boot logos and other hacks built in. It's as simple as selecting a image.

My vote is for Sapphire ...

Although recently I am finding most ROMS are stable if you don't overclock past 800 LOL

Welcome to the world of superuser control. This is an old argument and you should get responses from all camps and for the most part they are all right. You really should give them all a chance seeing as how easy it is to make a system backup and switch to another rom.

As for my own preference, I'm using D1-MIUI which is about as modified as the android experience gets, truly awesome and also very stable.

Once you get the hang of flashing I would also recommend trying the DarkEdge UI, it's the sweetest looking thing on any device right now, IMO.

Good luck and remember that Nandroid backups are your best friend;)

I'd recommend liquid frozen yogurt 1.95 or ultimate Droid 2.0.0. Both are stable. Liquid is really smooth and fast. Ultimate Droid has this really awesome tweaks menu built-in to the settings app.

UD has the most customization of all the ROMs I have used.

I'm using the newest MIUI Rom right now, it is totally unique from all the other Roms out there. If you want to try out a really rock solid, stable Rom that won't give you any problems and has amazing battery life, go for the newest Charity Smoked Glass Rom. Two of the best in my eyes.

Take a look at Succulent Desire 7.0. It's been out awhile, but it's a very stable, smooth running rom. The interesting thing about the SD roms is that they come already themed. You install the version that has the theme you like best. Try SHINE and Atlantis Blue - both are beautiful to look at and reflect the care and detail that their creators put into them. Go to http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-concepts/63093-release-succulent-desire-v-7-0-a.html for more information.

Still chillin with tUD 2.0.0 - He always seems to have a few minor bugs in the releases, but the ROM is unbelieveable and has so many options. I like it.

Thanks, so if I understand: root, backup, and flash ROM. I've looked at tools on this site. Anyone of them stand about the others? I'm concerned about bricking my phone, but I know if it's done right there's no fear...

You can backup your programs and texts.

Titanium backup or my backup pro for programs and data.

    SMS backup for message backup.

    Always wipe when installing ROMs.

Use something like Mybackup Pro and back your data up, I have Mybackup pro making scheduled backups every night when I sleep. You can set a limit and have the oldest erased so you have the latest without filling up your sd card.

I take call log and text messages with me every time I flash a rom.

astevens54 - Thank you sir. I don't really theme much now, but if you choose UD 2.0.0 you can use my theme and I will always be porting it for newer releases... unless UD starts to suck... which probably can't happen, haha...

learnindroid - If you want to switch roms your really have to erase your texts. I mean, I am not sure exactly what you mean, but the app Titanium Backup can save your current texts and rstore then after you flash a ROM. You should search around the forums for your answers.
