i'm just curious what kind of max temps people have seen on their droids.

PLEASE ONLY POST CPU TEMPS, NOT BATTERY TEMPS.

if people post battery temps and cpu temps these results will mean nothing.

Gotten to about 120F playing RoboDefense for a while. I have the Seidio Innocase.

Occasionally some misc app runs in the background (at night, when i'm doing nothing else.... can't rack it though...) and it will get to 115 or so frequently.

I can get up to 65deg C while doing some website browsing or playing a youtube video. I'm running at 1.25Ghz though so that maybe why lol

Highest I've seen in 156F CPU Temp, Then Temp Monitor froze and stuck at that, phone boot looped 3 times and finally restarted at 140F. I have a Seidio Innocase. I was looking at Buzz posts on Maps when it happened.

Phone still works like a champ as far as I can tell. I went down from 1.2 to 1.1 GHz after that though...

Something is seriously wrong for me I think.

I'm running DroidMod 1.0 and SetCPU at 600/1000 and currently I'm doing nothing except wifi tethering and the OMAP sensor is sitting at 47 C steady.

I can easily push it up to 58 C with the SetCPU stress test.

try switching to ChevyNo1's kernel. some kernels run hotter than others and Chevy's is the coolest running i have seen yet. i just switched last night and the difference is night and day.

also, 47c isn't dangerous, 58c would bother me quite a bit though, that's definitely hot.

I must confess I don't know how to change kernels. I just used DM Updater yesterday and it made installing DroidMod easy.

If you would be so kind as to point me to the right link with instructions that would be great.. in the mean time I'll use the search function.

i'm not familiar with droidmod or the DM Updater, but i am guessing it includes SPrecovery, correct?

    if so:
    -download the kernel: http://www.4shared.com/file/231936848/f38bec8b/ChevyNo1-125Ghz-OC-10slot-upda.html
-put the kernel on the root of your sd card(root means on the sd card itself, not in a folder on the sd card)
    -rename the file to "update.zip"
    -Reboot into recovery mode
    -Install
    -Allow update.zip
    -Install /sdcard/update.zip (deprecated)
    -Reboot

after it boots up, go into Setcpu, and select auto detect again and reset all of your profiles.

    your done...

Thanks a bunch. Yes it installed SPRecovery. I just used that to create a backup of my phone.

So, when I do something like you describe, I am still running DroidRom but with a different kernel, correct?

That would be different than say, going and wiping the phone and restoring a Simply Stunning ROM or something like that..

you would still be running the same rom. think of it like this, the Kernel controls the hardware, and the rom is the pretty stuff on top that you actually see.

you simply apply the update.zip and it flashes a new kernel on, no data loss, no app loss, no nothing. everything will function and look the same as before.

i am not sure which kernel droidmod uses, but i was running AdamZ kernel and last night switched to Chevy's and the temp difference is night and day.

i was seeing the 50-53c range a lot while running at only 800mhz on AdamZ kernel. simply browsing the web or streaming music would easily get me to 50+. now with chevy's kernel i can run 1ghz and while browsing i am in the high 30's, and see quick peaks in the mid 40's while pages are loading. while streaming music it sits around 38-40. if i stream music while browsing it'll stay in the mid 40's. so overall it's a whole lot cooler than it was before.

So what is the consensus about which ROM is the "best" (disregarding the kernel). I guess you like the Smoked Glass 5 ROM.. Nobody seems to be that enthusiastic about DroidRom. I am sort of surprised there's no poll about what everyone's favorite ROM is.

    Thanks again for the help.

there are polls on this topic. i have seen them around. Droidmod is very popular i have never used it though. i have only used the older versions of Pete's Bugless Beast, and then AdamZ Smoked Glass v4.5, and now i am on V5.0.1.

i really like Smoked Glass, bugless beast was nice as well, but i really like all the blue that adam threw everywhere in his smoked glass roms.
