If I lost my phone or my phone is spoiled, I want to easily restore my data and settings, so my new phone has all the current data and settings.

What is the best backup plan? What steps did you do? Automatic backups?

Thanks
Using Samsung S4. Not rooted.
(prefer a non rooted solution as I am not tech savvy to root.)

I personally use Google+ to backup photos.
SMS Backup & Restore to backup text messages and have set it to email the backups to my email.
Contacts are backed up to my Google account.

For non-root that's about as good as it gets. I am rooted and have Titanium Backup, but I haven't really used it for backup purposes ever since I went back to my stock ROM.

iDrive will backup photos, SMS, call logs, apps, contacts and more, but not the associated data and there is a free version. That and Carbon have proven to be the best I have found without rooting.

I think Google saves your app settings and app data if you enable it to. Photos and videos I use a couple of cloud backups, Copy is set to auto backup when they are taken. I use Box to backup my backups. Dropbox can easily backup all your media and can be backed up onto your Windows machine as well as its cloud storage. You can get 2GB free and drop them into a hard drive if your storage cloud storage is getting full then delete from the cloud to free up storage.
Handcent text app has the ability to backup texts and mms built within now as well.

Google will backup app settings and etc, but it can be a little hit or miss.

I use Microsoft OneDrive to backup my pictures as soon as I'm connected to wifi and Google+ to back them up again when I'm on wifi AND charging.

I don't worry much about call logs or texts, as I very rarely need to go back and see what someone said.

If you're on Verizon, the Verizon Cloud app does pretty much everything except apps.
I just used it and it worked flawlessly!

If you are using Samsung then Samsung Kies does it all.

FYI, Google Music just bumped it's FREE storage to 50,000 songs (I'm going to need A LOT more music)...up to 320kbps, too.
