AllDroid - View topic - 2.1 is up on AOSP
what exactly does this mean?
It means the source code is now fully updated and online for 2.1.
AOSP= Android Open Source Project.
Its now feasible for someone to go in, compile their own version of 2.1, and port it to "insert device that supports it".
thats what i thought it meant but does that mean we might be seeing a manual 2.1 update soon?
edit: so we kinda did get 2.1 on january 22 just not an ota like everyone was hoping for but the source code got released, at least its something
I will go as far to say it means we are closer to an update, but thats as far as I would go with it. Its certainly reasonable to believe that Google shipped the source to Motorola and other manufacturers ahead of them releasing it online, so who knows. It may mean something, or nothing at all
I will say this. If Motorola was waiting for 2.1 to be on AOSP before porting 2.1 to the Droid, then I don't think we will be seeing 2.1 for a while I don't think thats the case though.
well something is better than nothing i guess
The source code started going up over a week ago. I think that thread is just pointing that its all there now. I could be wrong. Its all still a little over my head.
