We have a piece of hardware in our Droids that is just sitting in the phone, useless and just taking up space. I think its time that pete continue the previous work on FM radio. We have the hardware and pete certainly has the experience I certainly think that it can be done. At this point, we already have the brand-spanking new OS version on our phones with pretty much every feature working near flawlessly. I believe that FM radio should be a top priority now, and we know its possible, it just needs some dedicated work.

The Droid has a chip in its innards that allows it to recieve FM radio signals, obviously, this chip is currently not in use.

Internet radio is obviously restricted to where you have a good wifi and/or 3G connection, and a good portion of radio stations (atleast in my area) do not have an internet based solution.

Well the Droid X has the radio working so maybe that app can be used for the Droid? I don't understand why they chose to just let it sleep in the Droid.

Well, the progress that they made at the old alldroid was that they were having some problems with the sound, but had the chip activated, could tune, but we couldnt hear anything, he had gotten pretty damn deep but then he had some sort of car accident and shortly after alldroid (original) shut down.

I would love to see them activate the transmitter in the Droid. That would add the icing on the cake. Save me some $$$ at the same time. Lets get it working!

FM might be the past but there are still tons of people that might find this feature very convenient. Older cars, rental cars, friends cars... you hop in, you stream your own music, internet radio, ect, with no wires attached and no power radio transmitter dongle thingies...

Im pretty sure its a "fm reciever" not an "fm transmitter" within the chip

Its not streaming internet radio, there are apps for that. Its a FM radio receiver. So no data charges for it.

Right, so no data as opposed to a Radio app.

I don't see what the big deal is about having FM radio? Wouldn't you rather listen to your own music from Slacker or Pandora before listening to all the radio commercials?
