The white bit on the back of a cell phone is the water damage indicator correct? If it has seen moisture it gets red X's?

My droid is a bit over a week old and has never even been close to water, and its got red X on the little white thing under the battery cover. Whats up with that?

And you've got red X too? Is the humidity from a hot shower enough to do that?

That would make sense because thinking on it, I don't think I've ever had a phone that didn't have the red x. Maybe I should go throw my old BB in the sink and find out! lol

Yes if it is bright red then threw is water if there are Red x's on a white background then you're OK. Mine has the red x's and been no where near water.

I too have red x's, but mine has been in the bathroom during a hot shower.

I think the red X's are supposed to bleed into the white background making the entire indicator pink, at least that's how it used to work.

My fiancée got a phone wetlands the thing was BRIGHT red. That was on a Motorola as well. But it was a razor. My last phone I dunked it in water just to show pol that I could do it.

Yea mine is bright red on the back of my droid, but also has not been near water and have no problems with the phone. The one on the battery itself is fine. I have issues with the battery door popping off at random, so I wonder if while I was at the gym the other day and it popped off it got a bit of sweat on it... I hope verizon doesn't gig me if the phone ever breaks...

Red x with white around it - no water.

Totally red circle - water exposure.

It turns pink/red when submerged. The red x's are dye pigment and saturate the fibers ont he white when wet. If you look closely the thing looks plastic from the outside. So it has to get quite a bit wet to trigger it. A hot shower won't do the trick. You're all safe.
