As simple as that headline is I want to run Gingerbread on my OG. I see a lot of things saying they crash and such. Was wondering if someone could guide me through and give me step for step on how to do this? I am a noob, and don't really want to brick my phone.

    unrooted........ soon

I may be wrong but if you want to install GB you need to root your phone then install one of the custom GB roms. Since your initial post said "unrooted.....soon" I'm not clear if your phone is rooted or not.

I really do not want to brick MT phone. I love it. I just want to expand it's use. I also want to know if I can root an LG Vortex.

I don't think Z4root even works on the Vortex anymore since it updated to FRG83D. I know that doesn't work on the D1 any longer. Motocache1's guide is the best and easiest way for that :)

The Vortex can be rooted. How is another matter.

I'm assuming you want a stock Gingerbread experience. Closest thing I know that would qualify is Peter Alphonso's Gingerbread ROM.

The link provided above on rooting your Droid is correct. Apparently you will need external links for the update.zip and probably for RSD Lite. Let us know and we'll help you out if this is the case. Also, if you are running a Mac or Linux the install will be quite different.

I have windows and I am sure I want to root this bad boy and have some fun. If I can get a full break down including places I need to go to get certain software would be great too. And if someone is willing to give me a number so I can call them if I have any trouble would be awesome too. And I want to know if I can get the blur based Motorola apps like the Droid 2 and X have. My email is analgas@yahoo.com any help would be great, root me!

    http://ted.servepics.com/nap/droid/MotoCache1_Complete_Root_v1.1-update.zip That's the update.zip

    http://ted.servepics.com/nap/droid/RSDLite4.6.msi That's RSD Lite 4.6.

http://ted.servepics.com/nap/droid/MC1_A855_1282081087_Recovery-Only_SPRecovery_0.99.3b.zip This is the SPRecovery-only SBF.

You already have the link for the methodology.

No, Blur-based apps require Blur, as far as I know. However, there are plenty of apps out there that duplicate and often surpass the capabilities of the Blur-based apps.
