ok... i have read ALL the threads about rooting and the information has been incredibly helpful. they have all encouraged me to root my D1; however, i need a little bit more help in specifics. Here are the reasons that i want to root/flash roms(?) etc.....
    1. phone memory is full w/ apps that can't be moved to sd
    2. battery life is HORRIBLE
    3. why not....don't we all tinker w/ our droids? :)

so...based on the above i need some advise on
    1. what do i need to run to root (which root program)
    2. do i need roms and if so what
    3. i have launcher pro plus and really like it, but don't neccessarily have to keep it if there is a better one for rooted phones.

again... i have read all of the threads, but need a little bit more specific direction on which root program and roms to use. thanks in advance.

I'm partial to CyanogenMod, but there's a lot of good roms out there. Once you learn how to flash them, changing roms is easy. But its definitely not something you rush in to.

    As for battery life:

    1. If you are using a Task Killer to auto-kill apps, stop doing that

    2. Go to Settings -> About Phone -> Battery Usage to see what is taking most of your battery life.
