Ok, I have installed the Ultimate Droid ROM (the most current one, 2.4). I have SetCPU installed, but it tops out at 800mhz.

Is there a way I can overclock past this and still keep Ultimate Droid installed? I am not really clear on how installing kernels works...can these be installed "over" a ROM like a theme? Do they need to be designed for that ROM or are they universal?

Is there an easier way to do this? Am I missing something?

Kernels are trial and error. Some kernels will work with other ROMs on one person's phone but not the next. Best thing to do is just flash one, and test it out. If you don;t like it or it doesn't work, flash another. I'm using UD 2.3 and I have tried slayher 7x1200LV 1.6, 7x1100LV 1.6, 7x1000LV 1.6 and the LFY-1100 SLV. All of them worked. The 1200 got a tad hot and drained my battery pretty quickly. Right now, I'm using the 1100. Just makes sure you make a nandroid backup before glashing incase you get caught in a bootloop...that's the fastest way to find out a kernel doesn't work on your phone. :)

And yes, you can install "over" a ROM. Just DL to your SD card and rename update.zip and install just like you did the ROM or you would a theme. No need to wipe or anything, just make a backup first.

So where do you download these from? Is there a single site that has all the major ones or are they just posted on forums and stuff?

UD has a link to Slayher Kernels in the Post here on the Forum - these are what he suggests for his ROM

Sweet...seems to be working well. Benchmarked 1254...better than the Evo on 2.2 and almost to the level of 2.2 Droid X. Not bad for an outdated Droid 1.

Now we'll see how battery life pans out. Thanks everyone.

Slayher, P3Droid and Chevy's (newest) kernels all work with UD. Try one of each, and see what works best for you. Chevy's have always worked for me, but then I cant use compcache.
