Do we have an app for the DROID that will allow you to speak into the phone and have it convert to text for a txt message?

I discovered this a couple weeks ago, when you are composing a text, go to "menu" and "attach" and then choose "record audio." It then brings up a voice recorder and sends whatever you record as an audio text message (for lack of a better term). Its pretty neat and great for driving, my wife has a normal cell phone and can listen to these texts just fine.

Chomp SMS, Handcent SMS and there is a voice-to-text keyboard that will work across all apps none of these work well enough for me though :p if they would use the bluetooth for the voice it might pick up what i said better

All of those are great apps to use for now. I think this will be a default feature in future updates. I currently have the 2.1 rom on my phone and this is working in the default messaging application. It works very well actually

I've been lucky to find that my voice works accurately about 95% of the time with the voice search function and with Handcent, unless of course I am trying to say something far out of the ordinary. I had this function years ago on a Samsung phone and although it was cool, it did not work nearly as well as on the Droid apps. I just wish it worked with through Bluetooth- for that matter I wish voice dialing worked through Bluetooth!

Thanks for all the feedback guys!

I've been using Handcent since the first day I got the DROID. Where the heck is the voice to text option?

When you're writing a text hit menu and speak.

Sorry to revive a somewhat old thread, but this text to speech thing is pretty cool. Though I wonder how advanced it is. Can it tell the difference between homophones?

For instance, if you were to say out loud "Meet me over there in ten minutes. They're starting their party any minute!" what would come up on the screen? Would it know which form of the word "there" to use?

I'm glad you revived this thread, otherwise I would never have known about this feature in Handcent.

I tried you're example and it got "there" and "their" correct, but it misspelled "they're" as "there". For text messaging it is not a big deal because it is not capitalizing letters or entering punctuation anyways.

Not bad for a cell phone :). Thank you for trying it out. Two out of three is pretty impressive. I guess I can say "they are" instead of "they're" if I happen to be texting my grammar obsessed friends .
