Someone needs to make an app for this. VLC is widely known as one of the best and easiest to use video players and it would be a shame for it to not make it to the Android Platform.

I'd make it myself if I knew how. I wouldn't even know where to begin.

If you are a developer, and you make VLC Media Player.. you can pretty much GUARANTEE a spot at the top of the most downloaded list.

On another note, if VLC is ever released on Android... post it here to let us know.

Ya I am in agreeance that there needs to be some external media player, especially for video. I prefer Media Player Classic as I feel it seems to play more codecs (especially since CCCP), but any alterntaive to the stock media player would benefit the whole Android community. Ahhh...imagine dragging and dropping Divx's on the Droid and enjoying them on the brilliant resolution, no conversion required!

Also, is there any chance that a video output cable could ever be developed for this...it would make it my all in once device then.....

Nice to see that I wasn't the only one thinking about this.
VLC is the most straight forward play anything media player I know of.
Would be amazing if someone could port it over to Android.

I was on board with VLC all the way until recently when I couldn't even play some of my .MKV files :( But having variety in players is a plus!

    YEAH!

VLC is just awesomness. It plays EVERY freaking format!
I would love THAT on the droid, having all codecs, never need to convert stuff,
    for getting the right codec!

is it theoretically possible to have divx capabilities on the Droid? or are we limited (due to hardware) to the formats out-of-the-box?

I believe until the Android 2.0 SDK it wasnt really possible to port a AV player to Android but I think most/all of the hurdles have been cleared and it is now possible. Now we simply need people to get involved and start working on this. I do know that Divx is working on an Android player and there are other companies as well but figure it'll be a few months till we can see something usable.

So wait, if VLC is ported to the Droid that would mean it could play any video format just like on the computer right?
