    good job

Whether you decide to do it yourself or download the sholesmod app I believe everyone that root (unless you already know what you are doing) should check out this tutorial. If this is not already sticky it should be.

Thanks so much, I really wanted to root to overclock and then install smoked glass but I was very cautious to do so. You made it very easy to follow, can't thank you enough!

Sticky this on the sholesmod section, so that those installing the app can still know what going on especially newbies.

2 questions: 1) Does he use the SholesMod to root it? and 2) Is it going to be the same process for when 2.1 comes out?

vtothez, I have been linking this on a bunch of thread. This along with rootyourdroid needs to be stickied on every sholesmod thread and thread having to do with root.

    I agree =D

Trust me it would help out a lot. I get tons of emails asking me very easy questions that can be answered 10 times better in my videos. Theres nothing better than a visual hands on learning experience. :)

Silly question, but since this thread is all of the guides and tutorials and stuff...

Let's say I root my phone and install a ROM. The ROM installs as an update, right? I mean, all of my applications remain installed, but the OS software is what's modified, correct?

I tried the 2.1 Launcher in 2.0.1 and it was laggy and FCed often. Do the 2.1 based ROMs not have this issue?

You've pointed out how easy it is to root and make a nandroid backup (I was one of those who thought this was crazy complicated), so I'm considering this if Motorola doesn't do the 2.1 update soon (honestly, the phone's functionality does all I want, but those are some nifty GUI updates with the live wallpaper and all).

If I do I just want to go with the ROM that, well, works the best I guess?

Honestly all the 2.1 roms out there are pretty buggy. BUT the ROM's with the 2.1 launcher that are installed on a 2.0.1 platform arnt that bad. In fact I use the 2.1 launcher with my Bugless Beast Rom and it works just fine. Live wallpapers were tried a few times but just kept the phone at its knees. So thats still in the works.

    Different Icon

I followed the instructions and it seemed to work, but the icon is different.
My icon looks like the market icon not a ninja. Do you have to install an icon package for the ninja to appear? Or why else would my icon look like the market place icon. The folder says Superuser Permission and i can click on it and there is 2 files in the folder.

    Any suggestions,

    Thanks
