I would like to introduce you the application I have created.

Viamici is the first map georeferencing application for the Android platform and the first such a solution on the mobile market. It will allow you to see your current position on top of a map image. The map image can be for example a photo of a map sign encountered on a trail, a photographed or scanned paper map or any map image found on the Internet—simply, any map saved in a graphic file (e.g., JPG, PNG).

You can see its video demonstration at YouTube:

Here is the link to its website: Viamici–Map Calibration for the Android Platform

Very cool, clever app. I'm wondering if anybody has suggestions on other ways this can be helpful. Google maps is incredible accurate, from what I've found. Just curious as to how one would maximize this apps full potential

    Now that's slick!

He should add some geocaching functionality to that app.

guess it'd be usefull anywhere sat-view isn't helpful... so anywhere with hiking trails (paths obscured by trees)... or even big buildings... hospitals, malls... school campuses?

First, I would like to thank you for all your kind comments. I am very glad that I did one of the first announcements of my application here. There is a very nice and active community on this forum.

Adding some geocaching functions is in my head full of ideas for Viamici development.

Unfortunately, the country of my residence is not on the list of those few countries for which Android Market is open for paid applications. Besides that there are many other problems with this distribution channel. Probably, Google is working hard to fix those issues and if they did it, I would publish Viamici there as well. However, I do not think Google will do it soon.

Using PayPal means that everyone on Earth is able to buy the license - it is available in 195 countries and very popular. Additionally it allows to fund your PayPal account with bank transfer - which is very good because credit/debit cards which allow Internet payments are not popular in many countries.

    Has anyone tried this yet?

His web page has the cost listed as $ 10, but there is no trial period shown. Love the idea, but would like to be able to try it first without a recommendation.

There will be a demo version.

There are no returns - in the case of software there is no guaranty that a program is not used (was deleted) after the return.

I just tried to purchase the software, but I got stuck on the license agreement. I clicked on accept and nothing happened.

Thanks for the info! I have just checked that it occurs on Internet Explorer. Were you using this browser? Try to do it with another browser (Firefox, Opera, Safari, the Android browser). I will try to fix the problem with IE.
