Verizon Getting Rid of Rebates For Devices More Than $150

Verizon is stopping their rebate program – in-store, anyway – pretty soon. There will be no mail-in rebates for devices which normally cost $150 or more, while devices cheaper than that may still be subject to the standard rebate system.

I like how it says "Great News!" lol, though i do understand that it's from a computer within the big red network, just makes me laugh. While my hopes would be that this is in a small way pushing towards not subsidizing phones, i know that's not really the truth. So i'm at least hoping they just make the price of the phone cheaper, and not deal with MIR's, seeing as that's alot more paperwork and hassle then to just market the phone for 50$ less for a limited time.

Yeah, I am totally assuming the phones will just be cheaper in the first place. I am gawd awful at filling out rebate forms and I am looking forward to just a cheaper price in the first place.

Sounds fishy to me... rebates are there way of free money since most people dont fill them out... So I guess they are just going to have a lower price but still higher than if it had a rebate... i think the new Smartphone price will be $250 instead of $200

"great news" - lol!! so, lemme see, in the last couple months: ne2 - gone; unlimited data - gone; rebates - gone. but look on the bright side, you'll get to pay more for the phones, but get to pay more for the service - woo hoo :icon_evil:

consumer reports and other organizations have consistently ranked VZW very high in customer satisfaction and loyalty - wonder how that's gonna pan out this year.

frankly, i wouldn't mind doing away with the rebates, if it means that they are going to make the phones more "actually priced." but my concern is that they will give an "introductory" price (instead of a rebate) that will only be for a few weeks, and not long enough for us to see if reports on the phones show they are reliable.

I'm hoping a lot pans out before my contract is up. I may have to reassess whether or not I am sticking with Verizon or going to another carrier.

Unlimited data isn't gone... yet, and not 100% sure it will be (hoping on that one though) :)

Hopefully its like why I choose newegg over tigerdirect for me PC stuff.

Tigerdirect has more mail in rebates, but newegg has that same item for the lower price with no MIR, even tho they do use MIR for some things too. So you can get it from newegg at a cheaper price with no MIR to deal with compared to tigerdirect.

Like some of yall already said, hopefully this means cheaper prices are coming.

Just remember, like the TiMo commercial says. "It makes sense if you don't think about it." :D

Hopefully the phones will be priced @ 199.99 then instead of 299.99 with the rebate. Rebates are a scam anyway, yeah you get $100 back but you paid taxes on $299.99 so ultimately you end up paying more for the item than you would if it was just 199.99 to begin with.
