It looks like T-Mobile's Uncarrier initiative is actually having an affect on Verizon, if only indirectly. In response to AT&T's recent price cuts on plans, (prompted by T-Mo), Big Red will be slashing prices on their "More Everything" plans. Here's a quote with the full details,

It's not a huge change, but it's better than the glacial creeping of prices from Verizon which actually trended upward instead of downward.

Saw an article about this yesterday. It's still $40 per line if you're not on the EDGE plan.

Yawn. I am on unlimited data. If Verizon would slash the prices I already pay for voice, that would be awesome.

I dont know if its just their site or what but it is sure confusing trying to see if its worth it to take advantage of this. I've got 4 lines, 2 dumbphones, and half the data and i'm paying over $100 more than this 10GB pipe dream. This reminds me of the days of yore when getting a correct cell phone bill was a crapshoot. Sure would like to hear from an existing customer that navigates through the muck and finds a deal here.

It doesn't look like the website is up-to-date with this yet. When I run the "More Everything" plan builder, it would cost me more than I am paying now for 4 smartphones. This seems like good news, whenever it goes into effect.

Nothing changed unless you have 10Gb or more data per month. Also you need to be on edge plan, otherwise line charge is still 40.

As mentioned before, its only if you are on Edge, which Im not. So I can pay $40/per line (which I have 6) or $15/line + $25 "rental fee" for a phone. So where is the savings?

ATT allows you to BYOD for their 4 line/$160 plan.

Okay, so here's the lowdown with this 160$ plan. This is 4 BRAND NEW LINES, all running on the EDGE program, with the SHARE EVERYTHING unlim talk/text 10gig plan.

Normally this Verizon phone plan would be:

    40- smart phone access
    40- smart phone access
    40- smart phone access
    40- smart phone access
    10gig shared data- 100$

    160 (line access) + 100 (plan) = 260$/mo.

With the "Edge Up" program, you finance the phone over a 24. mo/ period and when half the device is paid off, you can get a new phone (fine print included). In turn for being on a very high data package and all being smartphones, Verizon has given these customers a discount on the phone line access of 25$. It counts as a line access discount, but it shows up on the bill as a regular discount. So now each phone with edge gets this discount.

    40-25=15: smart phone access
    40-25=15: smart phone access
    40-25=15: smart phone access
    40-25=15: smart phone access
    10gig shared data: 100$

    60 (line access) + 100 (plan) = 160.00/mo.

So to get the big discount, you have to be on share everything, all four lines are smartphones and enrolled in the edge program. There's your kicker. Did I explain this well enough? If ya got any questions, i'll answer them!

at least $25 per month, per phone , for the edge plan = at least $100 more to the $160.
Shell game with numbers. It'll still cost the wallet at least $260 a month before taxes.

It's a numbers shell game. $25, or more, per phone, per month for the "luxury" of getting the $25 discount by leaving subsidized plan. Maybe by now they have phones that are under $25 a month?

Shell game is a perfect description of this. They can spin it any way they want, but the numbers come out the same. Yes you can "cut plan prices" but when you force people to pay a phone rental fee whats the difference? And dont give me this crap about "you can get a new phone every 6 months", all I care about is saving money at this point.

Im currently paying $385 for 6 lines with 10gb shared on Verizon. If I took 6 phones with me to ATT, I could have a 6 line plan with 12gb of shared data for about $225.

There is no 12gb plan on AT&T, did you mean 15gb?

And it is definitely a shell game, because you need to add in monthly payments for each device which takes the bill right back up. Only advantage is being able to Edge Up once you've paid 50%. I'll stick with my contract and paying less for a device.

Does the Edge plan force you to keep paying the premium after you've paid-off the device in full? Keep a device 2+ years and you end-up making out.

Otherwise it's not a shell game, it's a different way of giving you the phone subsidy. Before you pay $200-$300 upfront for a subsidized phone, which is equivalent to @$10 in monthly installments. The difference between a subsidized phone and full retail works out to @ $15/month, but they're giving you $25.

Even better. I was thinking it was 12, but you are right, its 15gb on ATT.

I am at the end of my contract with Verizon. I called them up last week. I wanted to upgrade my phone because it has a cracked screen and has slowed to a crawl.

They want me to pay $253.oo a month. I looked at how much we use. Almost nothing all 4 of use together.

I have been a Verizon customer for at least 8 years or more. Customer loyalty they call it... they just want to say sweet words into my ear to keep taking my money.

This surprises you?? Why do you think new lines of service are getting a $100 bill credit? Because it's all about new people, not existing.
