It is a move to get everyone have unlimited! Now even when you pay full price you have to pick one of the "new plan"

Ugh.
We need a table to outline what this new plan is, so I can wrap my head around it.

OK, so I'm on the Unlimited Data 700 Minute shared 1000 texts plan. I have my own phone.

1. Can I go to this plan without needing to buy a new phone from Verizon?
2. If I go to this new plan, and get 12 gig shared data, how much will my bill be? ( Now I pay 100 for me, and 45 for the wife's 2GB plan, with tax (~$30) comes to ~$180/month).

You will be able to do this, but will be charged $20 for each phone plus the fee for the 12 gigs shared. I believe that's how it should work.

That's the way I understand it as well, so for 2 phones, you're looking at $120 before taxes. $20 per smartphone + $80 for 12GB shared data.

If you buy a phone under contract. Do you get cheaper price on phone.

We will have to see what Thursday brings. My understanding is that they will give a subsidized phone on 2yr contract as a save tactic, but that $20 line becomes $40. Obviously the point of the new plans is to do device payment (formerly known as Edge)

And then add in device payment. I have a feeling that someone who may still be under contract will not get the $20 line

I am sticking to my unlimited data plan with 450 minutes "which I hardly use" and unlimited texts.
I'm with you on that, though I have unlimitted data and texts, and 1400 minutes shared with my daughter.

How to save money with Verizon s new plans - Aug. 10 2015

Best scenario: The best way to save on Verizon's new no-contract plans is to keep your existing phone and buy a big data package.

Let's say your two-year contract on your Samsung Galaxy S4 is up, and you've been using 12 GB of data every month.

You're currently paying Verizon $140 a month, and you'd keep paying $140, even if you decide to keep your phone. Under Verizon's new plan, you'd pay just $100 a month if you decide to keep your phone -- a $40-a-month savings.

My wife is going into Verizon corp store before 8/13 and take advantage of the 99 cent moto x 2014 on a 2 yr individual plan. $60 per month with 1gig data.

She would be better off doing device payment if she is doing the 14 model. It's probably about $15/month. So her plan would be $45 + $15 device payment = savings of $5/month over a contract. And the $45 is the taxable amount.

Edit: the 2nd Gen Moto X is $.99 on contract and about $18/month on device payment. Are you referring to the or the first gen?

She let her razr maxx contract expire a year ago and has been on the pre pay plan "all set' I think they call it for 45 per month with auto pay.
