Hey guys had a question.. I know the HTC Thunderbolt will be coming out soon.. however my question is. I looked at the little printed sheets Verizon uses to show there network coverage.. they have little to no 4G coverage except in like 3 or 4 major cities (mine being not one of them) however.. will they be expanding there network over the next year as they release more phones or will it remain as it is now?

Eventually the entire network will be upgraded. When exactly that will happen is TBD -- in general, the more remote your area, the longer you will be waiting for an upgrade.

LA proper has 4G (LTE) now. My friends in eastern LA county should have it before I do in the Mojave desert.

verizon is expected to cover 270 million people with 4G coverage by the end of 2012. as soon as an area is built enough to be able to offer LTE they turn it on. and every time another city is covered i hear about it since my dad is in charge of all of this at verizon haha

Another 50 or so cities already for the first half of the year.
Verizon’s Initial 2011 4G LTE Market Cities - Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog

During all of Verizon’s 4G LTE device madness, they walked through their plans for rolling out their new network to the rest of the country. By the end of 2011, they are expecting to be in at least 140 markets and covering 2/3 of the U.S. once 2013 finishes up. The overall goal is to have 4G LTE access in every single spot that they currently offer 3G service in. Sounds brilliant, right? Well other than the 38 cities that are currently offered, what can we expect in 2011? If they plan to hit 140, they need to get going, right?
Here is the list of cities expected to see an initial push…
Huntsville, Alabama
Mobile, Alabama
Montgomery, Alabama
Little Rock, Arkansas
Colorado Springs, Colorado
Gainesville, Florida
Lakeland-Winter Haven, Florida
Pensacola, Florida
Sarasota-Bradenton, Florida
Tallahassee, Florida
Augusta, Georgia
Honolulu, Hawaii
Kahului-Wailuku, Hawaii
Lahaina, Hawaii
Boise-Nampa, Idaho
Carbondale-Marion, Illinois
Wichita, Kansas
Baton Rouge, Louisiana
Hammond, Louisiana
Detroit, Michigan
Flint, Michigan
Fayetteville-Lumberton, North Carolina
Greensboro-Winston-Salem-High Point, North Carolina
Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina
Wilmington, North Carolina
Dayton-Springfield, Ohio
Tulsa, Oklahoma
Erie, Pennsylvania
State College, Pennsylvania
Charleston, South Carolina
Columbia, South Carolina
Greenville-Spartanburg, South Carolina
Hilton Head, South Carolina
Sioux Falls, South Dakota
Chattanooga, Tennessee
Clarksville, Tennessee
Cleveland, Tennessee
Kingsport, Tennessee; Johnson City, Tennessee; Bristol, Virginia/Tennessee
Knoxville, Tennessee
Memphis, Tennessee
Beaumont-Port Arthur, Texas
Bryan-College Station, Texas
Provo-Orem, Utah
Salt Lake City-Ogden, Utah
Centralia, Washington
Olympia, Washington
Charleston, West Virginia
Madison, Wisconsin
Milwaukee, Wisconsin
That’s an additional 49 cities that will go live in the first part of the year and will be able to take advantage of some of the new devices like the HTC Thunderbolt and DROID BIONIC. No Oregon though, eh? I guess my Thunderbolt will be just as awesome in 3G.

By the end of 2013 the entire Verizon network will be 4g. At least that's what they are hoping. It will probably take longer

140 cities and 2/3 its customers by the end of 2011. Not too shabby. And if you look into the details (or off their 4g service locator) coverage actually extends to many suburbs and outlying areas of those cities, although there are large pockets of what they call "extended 4G" which apparently means under certain conditions you will connect to 3G.

Correct. At the end of 2010, Verizon had 38 markets covered. A lot of people assumed that meant 38 cities, but they say markets because the coverage extends beyond that city in most cases.

We're still 1X out here in the sticks of Minnesota. Anyone know the plans to get the whole system to at least 3G?
