You can use it to test ROM's that are under development :)

You have a wifi only version of the exact same device, all the things you can do on android are still possible...just over wifi only. Personally I would use it for a remote vlc client.

I would take it apart and mess with the innards.

I just keep mine up to date and ready just in case something goes wrong with my D2. If that happens I would immediately root it and turn it back into the blazing fast machine it can be.

Sometimes to be honest I kind of regret getting a D2 and not just staying with my D1. So much easier to root and stuff. But I felt as a moderator here I had to at least have an idea of what some of the new phones were about. Now I'm stuck with the D2 for another year and a half.

I shouldn't say stuck, it is a great phone. And without it I'd understand much less about the bootloader and comparisons with the X.

Where to start I've already done. Right here!

I was searching around and read that someone had gotten Debian installed at one point. But it looks like that went nowhere. What about chromium OS? Or some netbook flavor linux? OR maybe a myth tv front end. With 16Gb of space, It would be just enough to keep my son busy on trips.

There will never be another Droid that isn't completely locked. So maybe hook has the right idea... keep it as a backup. That's what I do with Dinc

I use my spare every day. The only thing that I don't use it for is texting and phone calls which can be done through Google Voice. I have both of my phones rooted and running The Ultimate Droid rom. I load the U.D. updates on the spare first to test for bugs a few days before loading it onto my regular Droid. I also use it for testing themes before they are released. I try to make sure to put apps on it that I normally wouldn't put on my other phone just cuz I have extra space to work with. If you aren't rooted yet now would be a good time to experiment without messing up your main phone. You can root it easily by getting SuperOneClickRoot fro XDA-Developers.com Once you are rooted then you can start trying out all of the roms and themes that are available. :blackdroid:
