A while back, one hacker managed to interface a USB keyboard by shorting pins 4 and 5 together at boot time, then connecting a regular keyboard. Has there been any progress made with USB OTG mode? Specifically in not needing to press the button at boot? I can't search the forums, USB OTG is less than the required amount of characters required to search.

There seems to be an unusually limited amount of info on this, considering the range of possibilities. I've been scouring the web for months and nearly every mention links to the same few articles, with only one showing how to do the hardware hack, ghetto style.

USB Host mode on Motorola Droid

My first inclination was to modify a battery fed USB hub so that the USB accessory would not have to drain the Droid's power source. If I were to go that far, I wanted to utilize a simple push button to disconnect the necessary circuits and short the resistor while the phone was booting so I wouldn't have to swap out plug every time.
All in all, a fairly easy project for someone experienced, but I am not, and two things kept me from starting it; the fear that I would screw it up and accidentally send 5V to my Droid, and the idea that by the time I finished, someone would have written software negating the need for the plug swap/toggle switch part of it.
Several months later with no advance and seemingly little interest, I just might have to try it.

This would be nice. I'm surprised no one has done it yet.
