What frankencable are you referring to? That Walmart cable is just an everyday micro usb cable, like the one that came with the phone. It's worth about about $3 or so. Never pay $15 for a usb cable.

my bad i forgot to add with a usb female to female adapter. could i put that at the end of the cable instead of splicing a micro usb male end to a female end to create a host cable. or does the resistor ends have to be soldered to create a jump on the pinset for it to work correctly.

I don't think just an adapter is enough to make the Droid a usb host. There is wire splicing required.
