Hey guys, I was hoping you could help with a technical question. I am looking to upgrade my MicroSDHC card in my Droid to 32GB. There are a bunch of options available now, and I am wondering if purchasing a higher class card will improve performance.

Where I would be looking to improve performance are camera capture times, video performance and also Data I/O over USB. I am running a non-rooted 2.1 Droid.

I think the 16GB that the Droid comes with is only Class 2, so would going to class 6 boost or heck even 10 boost performance or would I just be wasting money?

I've been told that one of the problems of having apps on the sd card (rather than the internal memory) is speed. In that case, class 6 would be better.

Others who have done apps2sd say they don't notice a lag.

First who is making a 32G higher than Class 2??? Last I saw they were all Class 2 (and at $200 piece IMO not worth it).

Technically the higher the class the better the transfer rate HOWEVER it has been documented that the Droid can NOT take advantage of it (it's capped at Class 2 speeds). Whether it's the device/hardware or something with Android I haven't heard though but last I checked (on NewEgg at least for 16G cards) there was very little difference between them so I would opt for the Class 6 just incase it turns out to be an Android issue that Google fixes.

Well apparently Android, even though advertised to be able to handle 32 Gig SD cards, is unable to. Google is aware of this and is has been addressed. I know there was an article on this somewhere so look it to be sure.

Nevermind me.... I have NO idea what I was reading.. The cards I was looking at use an adapter for 32GB. So they are 2 x 16GB MicroSD and not true 32GB MicroSD...

I'm going to crawl back under a rock now....

This is a kernel limitation and will be fixed in Android 2.2

Sure, you can run a 32GB card...

How about take your card out the phone...
Put it in a card reader on a regular PC, upload 32GB's worth of
    files...

Plug it back in, and report how many actually show up?
    I'm betting it won't be 32GB's.

The original question on the post remains unanswered.

I thought I read somewhere that the Droid wouldn't benefit from anything above Class 4. I've seen several anecdotal comments that their class 6 has shown improved performance. Can anyone confirm that the Droid's mmc controller supports higher transfer speeds?

Please do not leave anecdotal stories here--I'm looking for facts only.
