upgrading from droid x

I decided it's time to upgrade my phone. Someone wants to sell me their Maxx and when I asked for the esn he told me it's on the sim card and it doesn't come with the sim. Is this true and if so I imagine I would just go to Verizon store and buy one. Correct?

I'm guessing that he means the phone is currently being used, which is why he won't give you the esn. If he puts his sim card into a different phone, the Maxx will be freed up. All you will need to do is go into a Verizon store (better to go with corporate) and tell them that you need to switch phones but you don't have a similar card. They should do it without issue

Vzw recommends new Sim for new to them phone. I second going to corporate store for new Sim.
