    Is this possible?

Another problem I run into is when I do a custom nandroid backup it doesnt work properly, I can only do a Basic Backup which doesnt completely backup everything...

    Sorry if im incoherent.

    Thanks for any help.

Dont do a custom backup, do an advanced backup. You will not lose your desktop or applications if you follow the update.zip method.

On another note, why doesnt advanced backup work for me? all it does is create name.nd5 file in the /nandroid folder.

Did you pick a name for your advanced backup when it asked you? If not then I assume it automatically is naming it name.nd5

I name is Steve but instead of it creating the typical 7 files it just creates "Steve.md5"

One thing you can do to keep your desktop and applications is backup your data. I created a folder in nandroid called apps so when I install a new rom I can restore my data. Give it a try let me know how it works.

As far as apps go.. titanium backup in the android market will back up all of your apps and data.. just reinstall it when your phone is up and running again and reinstall the apps from there
