As usual, these are update.zip format. Rename to update.zip, place on root of sdcard, and install (don't forget to 'allow').

The lowV kernels are just rebuilt versions of my kernels from the 'get yer kernels here' thread.
The medV kernels are just rebuilt versions of the kernels listed in my 2.0.3 SS release thread.

My advice to you, in selecting a kernel, is to #1 try the lowV varieties first. Then select the slowest kernel that exceeds what you expect to run on a day to day basis. So if you plan on running 800-1000, run the 1.0lv kernel.

If for some reason you get stuck on the 'M' while booting, first try switching to the mediumV kernel. If that does not work, back the speed down, say from 1.25 to 1.2, or 1.2, to 1.1, etc.

    5-slot Low Voltage

    1.0Ghz (125/250/550/800/1000)
    1.1Ghz (125/250/550/800/1100)
    1.2Ghz (125/250/550/800/1200)
    1.25Ghz (125/250/550/800/1250)

    5-slot Medium Voltage

    1.0Ghz (125/250/550/800/1000)
    1.1Ghz (125/250/550/800/1100)
    1.2Ghz (125/250/550/800/1200)
    1.25Ghz (125/250/550/800/1250)

    7-slot Low Voltage

    1.0Ghz (125/250/550/700/800/900/1000)
    1.1Ghz (125/250/550/800/900/1000/1100)
    1.2Ghz (125/250/550/800/1000/1100/1200)
    1.25Ghz (125/250/550/800/1000/1100/1250)

    7-slot Medium Voltage

    1.0Ghz (125/250/550/700/800/900/1000)
    1.1Ghz (125/250/550/800/900/1000/1100)
    1.2Ghz (125/250/550/800/1000/1100/1200)
    1.25Ghz (125/250/550/800/1000/1100/1250)

What do I need to rename to update.zip? When I download I get a file folder with 3 things inside. Do I rename the whole folder? And to place in root of SD card, do I just make sure its placed by itself and not in anything? Thanks

when downloaded it should be a zip file, do not extract - place on root of sdcard, rename to update.zip, so that it is not in any other folders

ChevyNo1, what are the voltage settings for low and medium? And on the lows is the voltage across each constant or do you slightly ramp them as you get to 1.25Ghz?

I do not have exact voltage #'s as they are not represented that way in code - but I can tell you it is slight ramp up at each slot, approaching to the top.

For lowV, there is no V increase whatsoever on the 1G kernel

OK renamed file to update.zip and placed in root of SD card. Now what? Just do a reboot?

    ^^

Reboot holding X until recovery screen
    Install
    Allow update.zip
    Install update.zip

this will work with ANY update.zip file

And Chevy, thanks a lot for these. Looking forward to trying them out when I get off of work. :)

One more question. Now that I have this new kernel up and running, what do I do if I want to install another update.zip file like Pandora glass. Do I have to delete the old update file or just put the new files in the old update.zip file?

Delete the old one, and copy the new update.zip onto SD :)

hows about if i already have one of your kernels already installed? i have your regular 1.2g on my phone (and love it, super stable) however, wanna try these lowV to see if battery improves.

if i do the update.zip method, will it just automatically delete your old kernel?

    great work, btw

Yes, it will remove the old one - if you still have the update.zip for it, you are fine as you can just install that again later. If not ... you can grab the boot.img from a current nandroid backup. You'll want to adb pull /system/lib/modules/tiwlan_drv.ko tiwlan_drv.ko to backup the WIFI driver.

    Thanks!

Chevy, I should have asked before trying...I used this on the Cyano 5.0.5.3 install and it broke severly. FC'd everything after boot, had to battery pull and re-install the ROM after complete wipe. This was with the 1.2 LV kernel

Yes, these kernels will not work on Cyano without modifications to the ramdisk ...

Chevy, once again, amazingly beautiful. The first time I ever tried one of your SS's (I think it was maybe 1.6? Not entirely sure) I couldn't get 1250 to run so I stuck with 1200... Now, with the low voltage 1250 I'm up and running smooth as freakin' butter.

My only question is, regarding low/medium voltage, is the only difference that if you can't run the low, the medium would possibly work?

Regardless, as always, incredible work! :D

Higher clock speeds typically would require more voltage, which draws more power (less battery life) and produces more heat. The idea is to be able to run the optimal clock speed at the lowest voltage that can drive that speed. If there is enough voltage, you would feel no ill effects. If the speed you choose doesn't run at the voltage you choose, the theory is that running more voltage may allow you to run at that speed, because you're giving it more juice.

That being said, all hardware is different, depends on the device what each can handle.

You got it exactly - I'm going to guess that 90% will be able to run the low-V - the other 10% will get stuck on the 'M'. They likely will be able to resolve by running the medium-V kernels :)
