I notice in settings > applications > running services that there is a process running for News and Weather app all the time.

    Google genie apps etc.

I never use the news and weather app, and its running the entire time my phone is on. I would like to free up some memory and save a little battery by deleting it.

Is there any other processes that would be effected by deleting the news and weather using chevy tools?

    See attachment.

    its the com.google.android.apps.genie.geniew....

I can safely delete the news and weather app w/o disrupting the function of this Process: com.google.android.apps.genie.geniew....

is this right? Im sure that process manages other apps too, but the newsgenie is always running...I want to ditch it.

there is a script in chevyno1 tools that can disable that app for you.

settings>chevy tools> scripts>hide/unhide files look for the one that says News and Weather

I dont want to hide it, I would prefer to delete it altogether.

I am just wondering if deleting it will cause problems elsewhere. with the

    com.google.android.apps.genie.geniew...

Yak, I think if you deleted the GenieWidget.apk it would be fine, it is just a stand alone app, to be sure you could always make a back-up first then rename the app to .apk.bak and reboot and if everything was fine then delete it

But I would delete it with confidence :)

The script has the option of hiding it(renaming it) or deleting it all together

    thanks AGAIN tparker!

york. I know how to delete things and hide them with scripts in chevy tools. That is not my question. My question is...will deleting this effect any other processes that are controlled by

    com.google.android.apps.genie.geniew...

    look at my screenshot above.

Ill just make a backup now...then delete it. If it gives me probs...I can wipe and restore. Its just a pita to go through it all again.

I deleted it using Titanium Backup and haven't had any problems with anything. When I put the phone in the dock, the area where the weather was no just looks like the rest of the screen. No errors or visual bugs at all.

    digging a little more.

I went to settings > applications > manage apps > into the news and weather app to look at details.

It doesnt give me the option to uninstall there. Its blacked out.

Also, for permissions notice it says....not allow phone to sleep.

So, I think deleting it will help save battery due to the fact that my phone will have fewer processes running when its sleeping...allowing my setcpu profile to keep its operation closer to the 250mhz rather than 400 I have it set to.

    See attachments.

    Chevy...what do you think?

Yak this is a system/app and has to be deleted via terminal, adb, or Root Explorer (I would suggest root explorer if you haven't bought it already) in root explorer navigate to system/app and the app in question is named GenieWidget.apk
