I have been trying to apply different themes to my droid and have been unsuccessful each time. The zip file is able to open and install each item, but after reboot everything decides to force close and my only option is to do a restore.
    Any ideas?

    P.S.
I am using the newest cyanogen mod and really want to install the theme called blackmod.

.Here is the Link...it leaves the clock black and some other things that are irregular, go check out these screenshots before you decide!! http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?/topic/694-mm-blackmod/. Have you tried using the update method?
The services.jar is included in the zip, just copy that file to /system/framework and then do:

    chmod 644 /system/framework/services.jar

    and reboot.

As always please be sure to do a backup before installing this, and I have do not know if this will work on any other 2.1 roms. http://droid.stanleyspace.com/CMBlackmod.zip

EDIT: Just went to CM to get this for you. It doesn't look like this is for the LATEST CM which is 5.0.5.4
