I am currently running cyanogen and was wondering if UD can be installed with clockwork recovery instead of SPrecovery? Also can i go straight to 7.8 or do i have to install an older version first? thanks for any info

No it cannot be installed with clockworkmod, go to droidmod.org and download dmupdator and flash back to sprecovery.

its worth every second and i mean seconds to do it.

    good luck.

You need to flash SPRecovery, and you can install UD via nandroid (don't use update.zip). Make sure you read his instructions in his thread, as you will probably have to wipe some things, I would assume at least data/cache. You can backup your data using Astro or Titanium Backup (both on market). Your contacts, calendar and some other things should sync with your google account.

And I personally am not currently running UD, but I have run it in the past (I am pretty sure I installed UD7 at one point, if not it was in the 6 series).

I am running UD v7.8 and it is amazing. Runs flawless, fast, and low temps when overclocking.

I'll back that up too. I had installed Droidmod v1 then went with Simply Stunning v2.0.3 and have now installed Ultimate Droid v7.8. It is sooo smooth and runs so flawlessly I am quite content to never change to another rom again. JK, that is untill UD v8 comes out. This rom is perfect, looks beautiful and I am very glad to have it. Don't hesitate to install it.

It'll take care of kernel, too.
    First, DMU.
Then:Ultimate Droid v7.8 Nandroid - Direct Download [mirror on second post] (Stock Kernel Chevys 1.0GHZ vESE53 Kernel)

Nandroid Backup Installation Instructions: (For New Adopters Of Ultimate Droid)
-Update & backup any files you wish to restore, this will wipe /data
-Extract the files from the archive using WinRAR or a similar program
-Place the extracted folder (the ROM) into the "nandroid" folder on your sdcard
-Reboot into recovery mode (hold the power and "x" button at the same time)
    -Wipe data/factory reset
    -Wipe system
    - Must be done- or else your phone will suck.
    -Wipe cache partition
    -Backup/Restore
    -Advanced Nandroid Restore
    -Choose backup (select the ROM)
    -Perform Restore
    -Enjoy!

Edit- I went from Cyanogenmod to UD7.5 Saturday night by doing thiis, exactly. Worked perfectly, my phone is awesome. You won't be sorry.
