Hi there, I just bought another droid (A855) on craigslist after my last one succumbed to metal dust distorting the speaker. I rooted my last droid so I'm familiar with the process, but I did it with RSD-lite last time.

I'd like to do it with SBF-flash this time since the process is very simple. I've exactly followed this how-to:
    http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-labs/97200-rooting-droid-2-2-build-frg22d-ubuntu.html

But when it reboots (and I hold up on the rocker key), it just goes back to the stock boot screen. I'm at a bit of a loss as to what could be going wrong. Everything looks good in my terminal, no errors, and no errors on the droid.

    Help?? thanks :icon_ banana:

Well, what you want it to do boot straight into the bootloader mode.

However, you have a couple of other options available to you now. Right now there is a free app in the market called "z4root" that would probably get it done for you easily via the phone or I have a guide at my site (linked below) that will allow you to root using adb. It's called something like root without rsd lite + make your phone rom ready.

    good luck

Really? When my phone is off and I 'add' (i.e. plug it in) to the USB cable it just powers on and starts charging.

I'm still trying to figure out why you are posting methods that relate to your Droid X when the OP is using/asking about a Droid 1. I know you're just trying to help, but these things do differ from phone model to phone model. . . . .

you know if you hold the t down adn the power will get you to boot loader mode in the d1 since i figured the usb and power would be the same but there you go.
if you like you could always do this.
use qpst+patch it should get you to boot loader but well you have to have use xp..

i know you have ubuntu but well sometimes you have to grab a old xp machine to get into boot loader mode

I really hate to keep this thread hijack going, but I hate misinformation as well. Holding down the 't' button while powering up the A855 puts it in test mode and ready to be read and written to by the more powerful service software like QPST, QXDM, RadioComm, etc., it does NOT put it into bootloader mode.

To put the A855 in bootloader mode and ready for programming with RSD Lite, you hold the 'up' button on the dpad while powering the phone up.

But yes, all this software I and you have now mentioned is for Windows.
