Are you selecting "allow update.zip installation" before you select the other update.zip that says (deprecated) beside it?

well both updates have the same name, so i had to replace the other file i had that originally rooted my phone, so i only have one thing there, and it doesnt say deprecated next to it, and there is no choice for allow update.zip installation

Then you must not have SPRecovery installed on your phone yet....

I highly suggest you do this first before you try installing any ROMs....you can very much brick your phone if you don't have this custom recovery.....this is what allows you to make backups of your current state so if you screw up you can have a backup

Go to rootyourdroid.info to learn how to get this and look at the Custom Recovery Image section

Sprecovery has saved me. I tried flashing the 1.3GHz rom and bricked my phone. Went to a previous backup, everything was fine. Had that happened without Sprecovery...I'd be screwed. Install it before you continue. It's a MUST.

okay i went there, and could not find anywhere on how to download SPRecovery, so if someone could help explain to me, like i said earlier, just rooted, so i am very new to all of this. as well as being brain rushed by calc for the past few hours, my brain is working very slow.

Best source I can give you is this:
    Root Your Droid

They have pretty detailed (and clean) instructions. Not sure where you're at now. But I would just start from scratch (i.e. repeating things like rooting won't 'hurt' anything but will fix anything that might have gotten mixed up somewhere along the line).

go here and if you already rooted skip to step nine (though you may want to read everything before it just to get some background info on what's going on). It goes through how to install SPRecovery using just the terminal emulator on your phone so you don't have to mess around with adb.

the error you speak of is a simple fix. in the sdk setup program, click Settings on the left bar, then check "Force https://... sources to be fetched using http://..."

pushing the files to sd card through adb is a little more labor intensive than just mounting your sdcard and dragging and dropping the files. You can skip that step once you drag-drop. The other commands you pretty much just copy and paste on the CMD and itll work.

I think everyone should use this set of instructions.... I don't think it is helpful for people to do it the easy way such as the SMupdater, or droidrotthelper cause they don't have any idea what is wrong if something doesn't work. If you follow the simple instructions and do it yourself you will be more familiar with what is going on.

So I did all these steps, to no avail.

I started by trying to do a hybrid root with recovery-0.15.0.img. I quickly found out that there was no "allow" button when I went to install (any) ROM.

So I restored my phone, restarted the process from step 14 using 0.99.2b

this time, I DO have an option to 'allow' the installation, but it does not react when I select it. When I go to install the depreciated zip, everything goes well for about a second, then the entire process stops with an "Installation Aborted"

    any ideas?

    thanks
