After the # mkdir /system/xbin step, it says "mkdir failed for /system/xbin, File exists
    #

Anyone know what this means or what I need to do?

It means that folder was created at some point previous. Skip that step and go to the next one and you should be good to go.

Also, thanks for the awesome transparency, teenfaces. Manigma, can you share your framework-res with the inverted status icons? Those are slick.

Any chance of getting the original status bar with a transparent shade in here? I really like the default look Android has, but with a transparent shade I think it would look much nicer.

    Couple questions:

Whats the difference between what's quoted above and what's in the link below?
AllDroid.org - View topic - BUSYBOX ON ROOTED ANDROID 2.0.1

How do we back up the original framework first?

If one does a "Factory data reset" will it set the phone back to the way it was out of the box? If not, what will?

    TIA

    Modded Launcher.apk

ok so here is a basic hero style launcher. No buttons work yet so I felt this one would do for now.
download attached zip and rename it to apk and copy it to your sdcard. Don't forget to unmount your sdcard after you copy the file and use these commands to put it on your droid.
    su
    mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system
    cd system
    cd app
    busybox rm -R Launcher.apk
    busybox cp -R /sdcard/Launcher.apk /system/app/
    mount -o ro,remount /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system
    reboot

What images are you modding for the shade and status bar?

Oh yeah, for people wanting to save the original, this is how I got it.

    Code:
    adb shell
    su
    mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system
    busybox cp -R /system/framework/framework-res.apk sdcard
    reboot

Well I basically just reversed what's copying to where.
Wasn't sure if it needed a reboot or not, but figured it wouldn't hurt.
Still getting a grasp on the adb, commands and Busybox thing and modding the files in the Droid, especially since I just got the phone on Saturday :icon_eek:

That worked great! No more white bar gleaming at me. Thanks. And I would not mind it a bit if you would release more colours.

I found the icon .pngs in one of the framework folders and thought I'd give changing the colors a shot. I modified it in PhotoFilter and installed the new Framework-res. I was rewarded with an almost bricked phone. If I didn't have the custom rom installed I think I would have been screwed. A longer version of what happened is posted over in the Hacks forum. Essentially, be careful before you try to edit these files yourself and make sure you can repair the damage.

Used to mess around with the BlackBerry all the time but I'm a Java guy so had no worries. Don't really know linux that well and have been skeptic to root but finally decided to give it a try. Worked like a charm, the transparent notification bar is nice! Good work!

Do you have the recovery.img on your phone? You can replace fix it through there if so.
