so I've been looking for this if there was a way to do this and I haven't found it yet. Probably going to catch heat for this, but gotta ask somewhere. Is there a way to make the background of the icon's text label transparent? the default they got is driving me nuts. :(

I would think it would be a file in framework-res.apk. Try looking through it and see if you can find anything that has to do with icon backgrounds.

Easiest way is to install the android sdk so you have adb.
then u can copy the framework-res.apk to your computer using adb pull.
rename from .apk to .zip and extract.

go to the tacked rom thread. it has a link in it to get you rooted. You must be rooted to change that type of thing...

If so it isn't a .png in the framework-res.apk it might be within an xml somewhere...very difficult to find, this might not be exactly what you are looking for but Launcher Pro has an option to hide app icon text that is what I use, I actually have a transparent theme out and anything that can be made transparent is and as far as the app icon text backgrounds I never was able to find those xml files for editing
