Tower coming on-line

How long does it take a tower to come up to full speed? We have a Verizon tower about 3 miles from our house and get good 3G signal, for the past week wen we get within a mile from the tower our phones switch to 4G. I was told the tower would be switched to 4G sometime this year, Could they have started the upgrade and are slowly bringing it up to full speed?

It depends...they must have one or a few 4 g antennas up or you wouldn't get 4g when up on it...

They have to unpack the antennas, get climbers to set em up, set up the the guts at the base, wire em, then starts the adjusting...

Or it could be unpacked and ready to go ..just powered almost completely down..
