While trying to USB connect my phone to PC (Win7) the top row of icons has disappeared
- contained wifi (on/off), Brightness (toggle light levels), Settings ... to name a few,
- there are 2 or 3 more that I cannot remember their function or captions

I do not know how to get them back.
Would appreciate any help ... thank you :)

Have you tried restarting your phone? Also check to see if Notifications are on in the Settings menu.

Thank you Jeffrey for your response :)

Phone does not have internet connection, it is only used for phone calls and SMS.

Have you tried restarting your phone?

Yes but it does not fix the missing "toolbar"

Also check to see if Notifications are on in the Settings menu.
There are two Settings icons. I have never understood why two, nor what each represents.
- they are both represented with a cog icon (one was on the missing bar)

I have found ...
Settings in table/menu in bottom left corner of home screen -AND- Settings icon in Applications
- they both present the same resulting screen captioned "Settings"
No "Notifications" item on the resulting list
eg Wireless and network, Call, Sound, Display, etc
- Display does not offer an option to place the missing bar back on the home screen

I have just managed to download a screenshot through a very unstable USB connection
- my screen shot skills should be a new thread (I know

Sorry for being so ignorant of phones, I do appreciate your help

Thank you

Slide your finger down from that bar at the top where the clock is. That will open your notification shade. On newer Samsung phones, you also have quick setting toggles for wifi and other settings.

Thanks Johnny Kansas :)

I discovered that yesterday, but it does not give me access to "Brightness" control
- in broad daylight I simply cannot see the screen at all until I increase the brightness
- ( a flurry of finding a dark enough spot, inside my shirt etc, to even see the Brightness icon

I prefer the WiFi control on the home screen so that I am nagged to ensure the WiFi is OFF when not in use.
- to avoid battery drain. These modern phones sure chew up the juice ! (That dates me)

But I would still like to now why and where has that original bar gone, and how to get it back
- it was a default bar with the phone

I do appreciate your help :)

That should be in the main settings of the phone, probably under "Display," but maybe under "Notifications" or something similar. Might also be tucked into the brightness section of the display settings.

Each model of phone has slightly different menus, so I apologize if that seems like a vague answer.

Brightness is buried in Settings > Display > Brightness > Automatic (option) or a slider :(
- not very convenient on the run, especially in broad daylight and the phone is ringing
- the lost bar's Brightness controller offered a 3 stage toggle of low, medium and high
I have set the Brightness to Automatic for now but in the past I found it too bright in doors, and a juice eater.

The only Notification I can find does not offer any Brightness icon.
- ie, Menu/table in bottom left of home screen > Notifications

Thank you for your response, much appreciated :)
