I originally built an .iso for the Droid X, it worked so well for so many people (70,000 downloads and counting), I decided to make versions for different devices. This .iso is for the D2G, I am taking request for other devices.

Don't let the word Linux scare you, this is just a cd you burn, nothing installs to your pc. Once you burn this CD you are ready to SBF flash anywhere you have a computer, no net connection needed to download any files.

Droid 2 Global Only! Versions available for other devices: OG Droid - Droid 2 - Droid X - Droid X2

This is an .iso file. It is a complete Linux operating system that you will download, burn to CD (or USB) then boot your pc from CD or USB, this allows your pc to reboot into a different operating system. The operating system has been preloaded with an SBF file for the D2G, sbf_flash (the Linux method of SBF flashing) and a script I wrote to execute it, this makes it very simple to SBF flash your phone. As soon as you boot into the Linux OS the script will automagically start and you will be ready to flash.

    Video instructions on the process
Thank you RageXmods! (He is using the Droid X version in the video)

    Download - 1KDStaz_D2G_2.4.29.iso
    293MB (307,232,768 bytes)
    MD5 (1KDStaz_D2G_2.4.29.iso) = 21d2cc595bca370d46b654c62e506f39

    Download - 1KDStaz_D2G_2.4.33.iso
    293MB (307,232,768 bytes)
    MD5 (1KDStaz_D2G_2.4.33.iso) = c5e2168b35a89578c49f7644c794ba79

    Download - 1KDStaz_D2G_4.5.608.iso
    219MB (229,638,144 bytes)
    MD5 (1KDStaz_D2G_4.5.608.iso) = f77ccbe8aa2eb492f1e48cbd9bbabf34
This version has the Droid 3 root script built in and allows you to root after SBF flashing or root only.

Please do not put up any mirrors, link this thread, if the download links aren't working let me know.

    Live CD Instructions (Mac):
    Download 1KDStaz0.x.iso
Use Disk Utility (built in) to burn iso file to a CD (instructions)
    Shut computer down
Hold c key, push power and hold c until you see the Linux OS start
Hit enter at the yellow "boot baby... boot" screen
You will see yellow dots for 3-5 minutes then the script will start
Hit cancel at the sound card check

    Live CD Instructions (Windows):
    Download 1KDStaz0.x.iso
Burn iso image to a disk (Instructions, Windows 7 - Vista and XP)

    Select boot from CDROM
Hit enter at the yellow "boot baby... boot" screen
You will see yellow dots for 3-5 minutes then the script will start
Hit cancel at the sound card check

    Live USB Instructions (Windows):
    (Instructions from pendrivelinux.com)(thanks)

Download your favorite Linux ISO (1KDStaz!)
Double click the Unetbootin Executable to start the program
    (1) Click the Diskimage radio box
    (2) browse to select your ISO
    (3) Set your target USB drive
    (4) click OK to start the creation

    (5) After the USB drive is done select reboot.
    (6) During boot enter the boot menu and change USB to boot first, save and reboot.
    (7) When booting from UNetbootin select SliTaz

    ________________________________________________

You will now be in the script and ready to flash.
The pc screen will look like this: (screen shots from the Droid X version)

Use the numbers across the top of your keyboard, not the number pad

Once the flash completes you will see this: (again, screen shots from the Droid X version)

If you already use Linux as your OS of choice you can flash with your current system, grab sbf_flash and the SBF file then simply cd to where you put the files, then:
    chmod +x sbf_flash
    ./sbf_flash filename.sbf

The drivers may or may not be 64 bit it actually depends on which version of Windows7 you installed. There are 32 bit versions of Win7 as well for those who do not have more than 2Gbs of Ram.
You have to have 4Gbs or more to run the 64 Bit if I'm not mistaken

You have it backwards... you need 64-bit to address 4Gb of memory. 32-bit is limited to about 3.5 Gb realistically.

Also, 1KDS, your OG Droid link is only going to a picture, not the post... :(

You can run 64-bit on much less than 4gb.... Netbooks do it all the time. 4gb isn't a requirement.

OG Droid link fixed. Let's keep this discussion about the Linux distro at hand, there are no drivers needed for this at all.

There are two .iso files to download, should we use the 2.4.33? What is the difference?

I made an iso for each of the newest SBF files for the D2G, 2.4.33 is the newest.

You bet! Glad to help out.

I run 64bit on my netbook with 1GB of RAM (soon to be 2GB). The only time I don't run 64bit is on a 32bit only processor or I find a system without a required 64bit driver (usually a specialized card or dropped support). Now if they'd only find a way to translate 32bit drivers for a 64bit OS without the OS freaking out.

As for the ISO, I wouldn't mind trying this. Looks rather easy and idiot-proof. So basically you burn the ISO, shove it in an old computer or laptop, boot it, connect your phone to the USB port, and SBF your phone.

No one claimed you couldn't run it but you shouldn't run it with less than 4Gbs of ram because it slows the system down more than the 32 bit version would due to the fact that the data is twice as wide for a 64 bit memory than it is for 32bit and uses more ram for less data than 32 bit does!

You can also run Windows Server on a single proc 486...Doesn't mean you SHOULD!

    Back on topic,
should you unroot before doing this? or does it not matter?
and exactly what does this do?

All i want is the latest Froyo before Gingerbread isntalled...
and everytime i ask i am told to SBF... ofcourse that doesnt mean __ to me..
and which of the 2 downloads Should one be using?

No need to unroot or anything. All you need to do is to start the phone in boot loader mode. SBF doesn't care what the contents of the phone are.
2.4.29 is the older one (original one that D2G shipped with). If you plan to use the phone on AT&T or another GSM operator in the States - this is the SBF to use. 2.4.29 can be updated to 2.4.330 OTA later once you boot the phone up. If you plan to upgrade to GB, use 2.4.33(0) - it is one step less to do to upgrade to gingerbread. Saves time.
