So i know what rooting is and that it gives you superuser access to your Android OS, but what im not sure about is the benifits of doing this besides having full control over the device. Like does this mean i can have custom apps, customize my phone even more then when its unrooted ? And i heard that when rooted you can delete the stupid bloatware the comes on your phone like amazon mp3 and skype, etc etc. Is this true ?

So lay it down for me peeps. What are the benefits to doing this. Cause im seriously thinking about doing it to my Droid 2 Global but I'm still on the fence.

Also I heard that rooted phones allow you to get better battery life, and allows you to OC your hardware ? Is that true as well and if it does allow you to OC you cpu, will it allow you to slow down your cpu as well so you can get better battery life?

Also I'm really confused on what ROMs are. I know what roms are for the like game emulators but i was looking at all the custom ROMs and i dont get what they are and what they do. What is UltimateDroid and SorceryRom, etc etc

It does allow for more customization. A rom is nothing more than a customized version of an os. Most of the time the author of the rom addresses known bugs/issues and also tweaks the os to run faster, smoother, and use less battery. You can also theme the roms to make android look a little different.

Another benefit of rooting is the free wifi tethering. :)

So it sounds like its worth it to root my D2G. I saw a sticky thread in the hacking part of the forums that gives step by step directions for rooting the D2G. Is this a good guide to follow?

Also what's the odds of bricking my phone cause that would suck. From what I've read it seems pretty easy to root your phone but I was just curious.

What custom Roms are currently available for the D2G? I know that the method of rooting this phone is fairly new so I wasn't sure what my options are

I would check out z4root. It is the easiest way to root. Its not in the market anymore but a quick search in the forum will give you a link to it.

Fission is the only ROM currently available for the D2G and the full sbf was just released should something go wrong. I'd be happy to walk you through rooting your phone and even installing (flashing) ROMs, themes, etc. :)

So once I root my phone and put a different rom on there. Am I going to be able to put my phone back to stock, out of the box standard, if I want to? Like in case I need to get my phone replaced or some other reason

AFAIK, Super One Click and Motocache1's guide are the only ways to root a FRG83D D1. I can link you to his guide if needed...?
