Text sent to email

I created a group in which to send text messages. I went to default messages app selected the group and all the names populated the "to" field, typed my message and sent without a problem. For some reason some people did not receive the message as a text on their phone. They received the message as an email which defeated the entire purpose of sending the text. Any ideas? TIA

I guess the default messaging app just doesn't work as it should. I am trying out handset right now. any recommendations for other text clients?
