Text Messages Disappearing

I have Handcent installed (Droid1) and occasionally my text messages will disappear. I use the red icon with the number of messages (notification bar) and it only happens when the red icon is in my notification bar, but no number to indicate that there is 1 new text. When the red icon shows up with a 1 near it, I can open the text and everything is fine. However, when the number is gone, I can only read the first part of the message in the pulldown bar because once I try to open the message, it's gone. I've tried using the native messaging client and the same thing happens.
Also, when the ghost message appears, there is no notification on the LauncherPro Plus dock either...
Any ideas to what the heck is going on? It is quite annoying as you can imagine.

Also, I've noticed it mainly happen when I'm using Pandora and Angry Birds.
