The worst part of this is I have not found a way to get the Facebook contacts out of the contact list without doing a factory reset. You are correct..I did not add facebook to the "settings>accounts". The only accounts I personally added to my DX was my google account and an old AOL email account. You can then download the facebook app from the market and use it without adding the account to the phone settings. There is an option with the facebook app to sync facebook with your already existing contacts in your phone. This will work, but will not sync photos (It hasnt synced photos since the update from 2.0 to 2.1, which is why I am hoping Froyo 2.2 with resolve this). There is an app in the market called "Facebook Sync" that will sync photos to your existing contacts. The only downside is that the program will not change the photo when a contact changes a photo on facebook, you will have to rerun the program for that. I do not use handcent, so I will be of no help there. If you have anymore questions feel free to ask...

I would really like to be able to put my facebook account into the account settings, but I cannot live with a sms lag...so if anyone knows how to resolve this issue, please let me know...
Worked swimmingly! Everything's back to out-of-the-box snappiness! Thanks much!

Ok Everyone, here's my story:

I've been on and off the phone with Verizon customer support for over a week. Fortunately, the woman I dealt with took up a personal interest in my problem, and kept in touch with me by e-mail. She initially told me to perform a factory reset. That was when we both thought the problem was fixed. Days later, the problem recurred. I wrote to her again and got a phone call back within minutes.

She told me it sounded like a unique problem, because there hadn't been any notes logged that she could find in their system with information pertaining to our problems. In order to try to get to the bottom of it, she suggested I call Motorola to see if they had any information for me.

I called Motorola and asked them if they'd heard of the problem. After running a database search, they said they hadn't heard it. I then told them about all of you on this forum having the same trouble.

The woman I spoke with told me to tell all of you to call Motorola and Verizon to explain your problem and get a case number for your issue. This way, Motorola will start being able to log the issues and have their engineers try to develop a way around the problem.

I asked if this was a problem that might be caused by Motoblur syncing with Facebook/Twitter, and was told that it shouldn't affect the phone's performance either way, because it was designed with the 5,000 Facebook contact limit-per-profile in mind. I tend to believe this, because I have several friends that have the same phone; they have large numbers of contacts and don't have my problem. Even my fiancé's DX performs fast and snappy, and she has 1,000 contacts in her phone now.

If it were a problem with syncing contacts with Facebook, I'm left wondering why it would take several days for the bug to rear it's head. Wouldn't it be sluggish from the get-go? I'm also convinced it's a software glitch, since everything else continues to blaze away on the phone.

Either way, the only solution offered to me by Motorola right now is to return the phone on an exchange. Fortunately, the service rep I've been on and off the phone with at Verizon set me up, and the replacement Droid X should be here in the next couple of weeks. I am hoping this will resolve the problem, and I will report back when I receive the phone and see if the bug is gone.

So case in point to all of you having issues: CALL MOTOROLA AT 1-800-734-5870. Tell them about your problem, get a case number, and see if you can exchange your phone. If you do it within the first 30 days after your initial purchase, there won't be any penalty. If enough people call and report the issue we're having, Motorola will hopefully more than likely end up addressing the problem. I hope this info helps you, and good luck!

Thanks man. I may have to call them then. I have Tried a number of things But nothing seems to be working. The problem relates to facebook syncing the contacts. If you disable syncing you wont have any trouble, even with a large amount of contacts.

But unfortunately some users can't go back. They are stuck with the facebook users even after removing the facebook account.

Funny thing about this is I just called that motorola number you posted, and they said they had no records or issues with texts and I should call Verizon to get a replacement phone. I explained to her that numerous people have had this issue and should really be addressed. She told me hopefully a fix will be in 2.2 but wouldn't give me an ETA on the 2.2 rollout. This sucks, I have had the phone for 8 days and Im thinking about doing my 2nd hard reset because of this text lagg issue. I might just get the droid 2 instead

So did you add the facebook account and let it sync all your facebook contacts then stop the syncing function? And did the sms run fast then with all the facebook contacts?

Everyone does need to call because this has to be associated with the facebook account syncing with the contacts. Since I did a reset and removed facebook contacts, mine has run very snappy...

By the time I stopped the sync function the damage was already done. Removing the sync function should stop some of the problem. I even went as far as removing every account except for my Gmail, and THAT did not remove the offending Facebook contacts!

Moto Blur sucks, IMO.
Why could they not just leave the OS run alone like they did for the Droid (1st gen)??? The widgets are ugly and clearly, it is screewing up the works.
It is experiences like these that turn people away from great technology that works great. But how is the average person supposed to figure all of this out on their own?

I have several people that already said the X sucks because of this and they should have gotten the iPhone. Then they tell all their friends... all because of one stupid problem that snowballs and ruins the user experience of this new device. Motorola, you are failing hard!

I have been looking at some other forums and I think they have figured this problem out. As I thought this was a problem with the Blur syncing up all the facebook contacts and slowing the sms app down, it appears that the actual facebook app from the market place is to blame. Most people will set both these accounts up on their DX, but when the Facebook app gives you the option to sync your contacts with facebook, but it seems to repeat this process daily and/or everytime you reboot your DX. I noticed it doing this when I went into my contacts and noticed that some contacts would have many linked profiles (up to 50-100) and most of them would be the facebook app. I think all these links are what is slowing down the sms app.

What I suggest is to go into the facebook app settings and select the option to where it doesnt sync and removes all facebook material and then just let the blur/settings facebook account be your only sync. I have done this and my DX is flying.

Sorry if this has been a little confusing...

so to make sure i understand, you're saying if i turn off the syncing from the facebook app, it'll fix the extreme lag?

if i do a factory reset, is there a way i can get facebook contacts into my contacts on the phone without lagging out messaging?

You cannot simply turn off the syncing. You will need to go into the facebook app settings and choose the sync option that removes all facebook information.

If you do a factory reset set up your facebook through the option motorola gives you to add facebook to your account settings/social networking. When you download the facebook app from the market make sure you select the do not sync feature. This should keep the facebook app from creating many profiles for each contact while your facebook contacts will be added thru the accounts/social networking utility on your phone.

I am looking at the facebook app right now and there aren't sync or remove options in the facebook app itself... There's a refresh interval?

Its probably better to just uninstall the app then redownload it and chose the do not sync option

I removed/deleted the app and waited a day. It acted as if it was refreshing but still it did not remove the FB contacts.
