Using a USB will mean you always need a cable. Using bluetooth will only give you access to select devices. Wifi is a more commonly supported network that will give you tethering possibilities for just about anything. My opinion would be to get the wifi tether hack. You will need to be rooted and all that good stuff but in the end its worth it because if you ever choose to do any other mods to your phone it will already be rooted (which is very easy to do btw)..

    tethering your droid

I used a program called PDAnet it is free. Now this will connect your Droid
internet to a P/C. However your provider will start seeing your usage go up, then they will charge you. the droid get 5mb free. Be Carefule.

What are you talking about? 5 mb? Most if not all droid users have a $29.99 unlimited data plan.
Please check your facts before you post.

First off ronniea, the technical cap is 5GB, not MB. Secondly, Verizon says a lot of things to scare you. The rep told me "we WILL know if you hack your phone..." I just smiled and thought to myself, "No, no you won't."

Actually, it's 5GB, and that's their tethering limit. The thing is that with the ammount of data usage you can have regularly with your phone, it's going to be difficult for them to say "He's tethering"

On a given day I stream Pandora as I drive around, stream youtube when someone asks about something, download various updates, etc...

So, that 5GB has NOTHING to do with your actual phone usage, it's just their "unlimited tethering plan" which is utter BS.

Dude, act like an adult, there's no reason for that crap on here. Everyone here has one goal in mind, more options for their droid, not to get in a stupid flame war.

If you want to do this, take it to fark or 4chan where they embrace this kind of stuff.

    Droid Hacks

PdaNet is a wonderful program, eventually you will need the pay version to access the 'security' sites. If you are a newbie like me, you will need to take a look on YouTube.com. There are a few installation videos regarding this topic to help walk you through the process. Have fun with that.:greendroid:

I know that for the iPhone there are apps thy allow the phones themselves to become wifi hot spots. are there any apps available or rooted programs to do a similar thing. I know about PDA net and personally I was not happy with It so I am looking for alternatives

"Wireless Tether for Rooted Users" is the app you are looking for but as the name implies it only works on rooter units which is not hard to get done.
