Tasker to disable 3g when idle/locked?

Would it be possible to use Tasker or some equivalent to force the phone to only use 2g at certain times?

I'm thinking of trying to force 2g when the phone is locked, so it still has data for Google Voice txt's and email syncing, but it's not using 3g to suck the battery.

Would it even be worth it, in terms of trying to extend the battery life?


I tried with Tasker, but it said the 'Mobile Data 2g/3g' action doesn't work on this phone...

I guess for that matter, is it even possible at all to set the data to 2g only??

As I do not have the phone (yet?) someone else would have to confirm whether you can toggle things at the OS level, but have you tried going into the moto hidden programming menu to see if there is an option there that might help?

At the dialer prompt, key in ##program. The next screen gets 6 zero's for the password (000000). Then press verify. This should get you to the radio programming menu where you might find something to play with?
