Right now, the only way to access the actual tray is by long-pressing the search key, or using the camera key... Then you get a nice-looking dock-like interface along the bottom of the screen. A quick tap switches to the tapped app, and a long-press on a running app (helpfully indicated by a little red R) kills the long-pressed app.
