Seriously, Android Assistant is the way to go.
Its a multifunctional tool with a task killer included as well as
A bunch of other very useful tools such as Quick Boost.

Another alternative is Advanced Task Killer.

You do not need Any task killer with 2.2 or 2.3. They will rob you of battery capacity and just cause programs to reopen after they have been closed. Froyo does a great job of handling memory all by itself.

So then why do phones come with a task killer preinstalled?

The same reason phones come with bloatware preinstalled. Because manufacturers are clueless. Do a simple search on this site and you will find many threads discussing task killers and why they are not a good idea.

Task killers CAN be useful as long as they're not on 'auto-kill'.

I use the task killer is superbox to make sure some apps are closed that I know won't open on their own later.

your Dinc came with a task killer?? Never heard of that. I actually use titanium backup to "freeze" programs but that is a different ball of wax.

Task killers do more harm than good. Android actually manages applications very well on its own. Lower amounts of free memory is actually better on an Android system- it performs more efficiently. Sounds counter-intuitive, I know, but it's true. If you want more technical information about why task killers are bad please let me know and I'll be happy to post some links for you.
