Switch from global to the x

Hi guys ive been reading a lot of info but thought id just put the question out there.....
Right now i have the droid global and the battery is awful and the blur is killing me on performance and the lack of roms and not being able to unlock the bootloader sucks.
So basically how is the performance of the droid x stock or is rooting and romming a must and how is the battery life? I am a moderate user. I am a firm believer that one should not have to buy a extended battery to fully use there phone.

I use my phone pretty damn heavily all day starting at about 8 in the morning...lasts till about 2 in the morning so yea ...ditch blur go with liberty and its all good from there
