Yup and the next threads will all read/// ZOMFG 800mhz overclock fried my droid!!! If it is anything like overclocking a cpu on a desktop then there is going to be a serious heat issue!! Mine already gets pretty warm on the back up top by the camera (where i suspect the processor is) and this is at stock 550 i can only imagine what it would feel like at 800 mhz with pandora, gps, and all other kinds of things running on my phone!

I'm not really worried about frying the droid with overclocking. When SetCPU supports it, you can easily set it so when it's in sleep mode it's not overclocked, and I know personally my phone is in sleep mode most of the time except for sporadic use (every once in awhile I'll use it for extended periods of time). The danger drops considerably when the phone is only overclocked while in use.

I would not be too worried about frying the droid. Just don't run 800+ ALLLL the time. Boost it up when your on the internet or playing games or doing something where you need the extra boost. If your text messaging keep it at 600. And when its in sleep shut it all the way down as low as you can go. It's all about using it only when you need it.

im excited for this but the only thing is when would you really need the extra processing speed, i mean i guess it would be useful sometimes but does that mean that im going to constantly be adjusting in setCPU, i feel like there needs to be some quick toggle implemented into setCPU, like in the notification bar or a widget or something, like one click to go to 800MHz and one click to go back to your normal setting, kind of like an override button

Hell yes. If he gets something higher than 600 mhz to be stable and safe, I can't imagine that anyone would regret buying the Droid over the Nexus One. I never did, but there were about 100 threads talking about it.

Sounds like 800mhz is the the highest anyone would want to go if they care about their phone. I will definitely be giving it a try as soon as they release the kernel and an update for SetCPU.

He said at 1.4ghz, the Droid won't boot. The highest he's tried below that is 1.1ghz and it's stable. I'm guessing he will fine tune it in between to see how high it can possibly go.

You are. At the very least you should root and get the latest SPRecovery installed, and I would add installing Busybox to the list.

-Root you need to be able to do anything, really...
-SPRecovery makes it easier to fix a corrupted/broken phone (software things). It also allows you to install custom ROM images (custom updates) or any official update.
-BusyBox adds extra commands, and a lot of the guides or tutorials will use busybox commands in them (which will not work without it). Also, some apps like MetaMorph need BusyBox to work.

From there, your set to do anything anyone develops, hacks or discovers on here :)

In-fact, considering the next updates are suppose to block the exploit used to root our Droids, you should probably get to it soon. SPRecovery also blocks OTA updates. so no need to do that manual otacerts file hack, which I consider dangerous.
